What constitutes a computer security incident? An incident may be defined as deliberate electronic attack on the communications or information processing systems of an organization performed by a disgruntled employee, a malicious competitor, or a hacker.

Organizations should know how to respond to and handle an attack to control the costs and consequences that could result. In the event of a security incident, organizations should take immediate action to investigate the incident, limit the exposure of confidential data such as cardholder data, banking data any non-public customer information.
